Catalogue of Measures for Biodynamic Viticulture

Biodynamic Viticulture (Adam Csordas)

Biodynamic Viticulture

This catalogue is a practical working document for winegrowers, advisors and project partners who want to understand which measures are relevant when converting a vineyard
from organic or low-input management towards biodynamic viticulture. It is not designed as a philosophical essay, a certification manual or a complete plant-protection guide. Its funcTon is to translate practical and technical knowledge into field-level measures that can be planned, implemented, observed and reviewed. The catalogue presents a set of priority measures selected because they are fundamental to biodynamic viticulture. Each measure is described through basic information, implementation, benefits, limitations and sources. The aim is to support practical farm planning, advisory discussion and consistent implementation across different vineyard contexts.

Biodynamic viticulture should be understood as a system. The preparations are not a substitute for sound viticulture. A vineyard with compacted soil, unmanaged vigour, poor
pruning architecture, weak organic ma`er dynamics or an absent biodiversity strategy will not become resilient simply because preparations are sprayed. The practical sequence is therefore: first stabilize the vineyard organism; then introduce the biodynamic preparations rhythmically; then improve the coherence of the whole farm through compost, animals, landscape structures and cooperation. The working logic of the catalogue is direct: be`er wine depends on better grapes, better grapes depend on healthier vineyards, and healthier vineyards depend on balanced vines, living soil, a resilient environment and well-timed work. Timing is therefore treated as a management discipline rather than as an accessory. Late or improvised operaTons are a major reason why biodynamic work becomes superficial.
